As the year quickly draws to a close, I am reminded that it is once again the time to think about shedding oneself of any emotional baggage or regrets that bind us. We need to discard old burdens, push them out. And start to realize that the coming new year brings so many opportunities. We are essentially reborn into a much happier state of being – with new goals, new ambitions, new heights of achievement to attain, as well as the resolve to see these things through. Let go and see nothing but positive for the coming new year.
Now, there are many traditions around the globe as we see this entrance into the new year, but I want to share one with you that my family has done for several years. It enables you to symbolically banish the old from your life and release it so it can burden you no more. It also adds a welcoming ritual to your celebration that will help ensure your luck in the new year to come.
First, gather up all the things that you would like to see happen in the new year. For example, if you wish for your business to succeed, grab a business card. If you need more income, grab a copy of the want ads, or job description you want – or gather up some coins or a dollar bill. Photos of your family are always a nice choice. Just grab whatever feels right.
On a piece of paper, write the following:
‘Out with the old,
In with the new,
May prosperity and fertility
Come to you
On this New Year
So it shall be.’
Fold this little petition towards you three times.
You will toss these items into a plastic zip lock bag. You can also add money-drawing herbs like bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, magnetic sand if you have some. Anything that you desire in the coming new year.
Take the bag outside of your home and hide it somewhere that you will know where to find it.
A few minutes before midnight, light a candle – any color will do. Say the following:
‘As I light this candle,
I bid the the Old Year farewell,
With gratitude for milestones passed,
And memories cherished.
And I welcome the New Year in
With love and warmth and blessings.
That the quality of this new year be assured,
I now dedicate a moment to visioning
Some ways to make this year
A year of excellence,
A year of fortune.’
Pause for a moment to envision the kind of year that you want to have and the kind of person that you want to be. Enhance these visualizations by imagining your objectives charged with energy and bathed in glowing light. Then continue:
‘And thus do my wishes for the year
take on their own life and purpose.
So does the year itself
take on a glowing life and power;
A bright year, a bold year,
a golden year, a year of magic!
So may this year bring luck,
and peace, and prosperity
to one and all.’
From By Candlelight, by Janina Renée
Allow the candle to burn continuously, or relight it every morning to reactivate the energies of your eve celebration. Whether the candle takes a few days or a few months to burn down, you can be satisfied that its flames will radiate your blessings to last the twelve months out.
The morning of January 1, go outside and bring the zip-lock baggy inside your home. Symbolically, you will be bringing all these wonderful opportunities into your new year!
Anything written on paper in the baggy, remove and burn. Scatter the ashes to the wind.
Stay positive and focused this year, my Witches. Like attracts like… so focus on all the best things in your life – and it shall attract more.
Blessings to each of you, from the Swamp Witch & all of us at Inexplicable Things. May the new year be more prosperous than you can imagine!

Simplistically easy…and yet quite effective!
- Black Ribbon or Cord
- Object to represent the target
- Doll, photo, candle, etc
Begin slowly wrapping the object with the cord while saying:
“By Air and Earth –
By Water and Fire –
So you’ll be bound,
As I desire.
By the power of mind,
Your influence I bind.
By Moon and Sun
This working is done
By Sky and Sea
Keep all harm from me.
As cord goes round,
All your power is bound.
Now be sealed.”
Bury in the ground, face down.

So you want a simple way to boost the oomph of your spells.
You can ask 10 different folks this same question and walk away with 10 different answers. There are many ways to boost the effectiveness of spells and conjure work – but, when the Swamp Witch wants to get down to business, she turns to her Conjure Oils (also known as Condition Oils).
These oils are wonderful little powerhouse concoctions of herbally-infused oils, in a base carrier. They can contain whole, cut or powdered herbs, minerals, essential oils and curios. And they basically bring together the properties and elements of the herbs and ingredients into one concentrated potion, in order to add amplification and empowerment to nearly any object or working.
The time required to correctly create these oils is a labor of love.
Now Cher, lemme tell you – not all Conjure Oils are created equal. And you need to be choosey when it comes to picking the right oils for you. Many workers purchase their oils from merchants, who manufacture them in great numbers; however, for the most potent and powerful, and to be certain of the validity of herbs used, it is recommended to purchase from an actual Rootworker that has reputation and skill, or make your own, of course. In today’s world of adding colorants and synthetic fragrance, it’s hard to distinguish where the synthetic ends and the organic begins. Now, if you choose to make your own, be sure to do the research and put in the time so you know exactly what you are putting into your formulas. Sometimes, a misstep in any direction can render the entire batch useless.
The fact of the matter is that condition oils have been used for centuries, and they have a long and very magickal history – dating back to even before good ol’ Moses. Throughout this time, they have been used by most spiritual denominations at one time or another – including Christianity.
But, let’s face it, it’s Hoodoo that has put Conjure Oils on the map!
So, you have your oil. Now what?
These Conjure Oils can be used in so many different ways. Some of the most common are:
For dressing or anointing candles: dab a bit of oil on your fingers and rub it into the candle. If you are bringing something into your life, you would stroke the oil toward you on the candle. If you are sending something away, stroke the oil away from you on the candle. Burn as normal. For glass encased candles, just place a drop or two of the oil in the top of the candle.
You can also dress letters, petitions or name papers with these oils. Dressing a letter or petition/name paper is easy. Just dab the oil in the four corners of the paper, and in the center, to create a 5-spot pattern, then fold the paper as normal.
You can feed a Gris Gris or mojo bag, as well as doll babies by putting a few drops of oil in your hands, rubbing them together and then working with the Gris Gris or doll.
And finally, you can add these oils to floor washes, bath salts, shampoos and conditioners, or even perfumes. You can dab a bit in a window sill or in a doorway. You can rub some on your hands and touch a person you wish to influence. You can anoint cash or checks, the keys on a cash register, or even the very soles of your shoes.
I, personally, use them in many of the above applications, but also in conjure jars and vessel magick. I will mix them with powders of the same condition, or a complimentary one, to make the work more even more powerful.
So, Bebe, you can see how these little herbal tools are a wonderful weapon in your magickal arsenal.
But, again, be choosy. Due to the increasing number of manufacturers that opt to use synthetic colors and fragrance, in order to boost the sales of their product, we decided to dig out our old family magickal recipe book and began working with a few herbs and various oils. Over time, and through trial and error, we have created a nice little selection that we are finally quite pleased with. Now, while the oils are new, the recipes themselves are not – and we have seen amazing results. We now feel comfortable and confident enough to offer these Conjure oils to our clients, as well as anyone wishing to give them a looksee.
So without further ado, Inexplicable Things is proud to offer a variety of southern Swamp Conjure Oils. We only use the finest organic ingredients – be they herbal, floral, mineral or curio. We grow or wild harvest what we can, right here in the Louisiana bayou, but when we must buy, we purchase only from highly reputable botanical suppliers that we have experience with. We take great care in the milling and refinement of all components, regardless of the final product.
Our process is simple – we hand grind, sift and mill the botanical components, then introduce them to the carefully chosen carrier oil. The oils we use are all exceptionally skin safe – even for the most sensitive of skin types. * However, they are not meant to be hypoallergenic. Certain oils do contain botanicals that can irritate sensitive skin, such as cinnamon, red chilies, etc. We do highly recommend that you do a skin test if you are prone to sensitive skin. Aside from this, they are safe and will not stain.
The oils then hit the Cajun spa! The get a long, slow, warm bath. We simmer all of our oils for no less than 12 hours. This not only guarantees that we keep a close, loving eye on each bottle of oil that we produce, but it also guarantees that the herbs are completely infused in each oil.
Once they are ready to be taken out of their warm bathwater, they are allowed to cool to room temperature. Then, we strain off the botanicals and add fresh cut herbs before they are bottled by hand. They are then sealed with a tamper resistant cap and seal, and are placed in a dark, quiet spot where they can sit undisturbed for a few weeks to achieve maximum potency.
Absolutely NO fillers, NO additives, NO preservatives. Mais, I tell you – I can guarantee that your oil won’t have a single drop of any added synthetic fragrance, perfume or color additive. They are all natural, and you can tell difference when you smell them. They are herbal, no question – not synthetic, and not over-fragranced. Our oils are also quite thick. The long simmer makes them even more so – expect some serious settling on the bottom of the bottle. Now, keep in mind – just because the botanicals have settled to the bottom of the bottle, the oil is just as potent without being shaken; however, if you want to stir up those herbs, you gonna have to shake, Cher!
Shake, Shake, Shake baby! This shows ya just how serious our oils are!
So, there ya have it! The Swamp Witch’s secret weapon for getting’ the jump on her target: southern-style Conjure Oils. And just like our Conjure Powders, the possibilities are endless!
Use your imagination… go wild and get oiled, baby!
Please see our website at http://www.inexplicablethings.com/conjure-oils.html for a complete list of available Conjure Oils.

Let’s face it – most of us have been hurt in some form or fashion by someone we really cared about.
That’s life – it happens to the best of us. But occasionally, we are unfortunate enough to care about a drama queen (or king). I’m not talking typical drama either – I mean the kind that will rip your heart out because you wound up caring for them and they finally tired of playing with you and tossed you aside like a worn out teddy bear. The kind of person that dawns a perfect window dressing to hide the counterfeit that they really are.
Oh, these pretentious, two-faced bastards will act soft and innocent around you – but get them in a crowd where they are the center of attention – and honey, you would swear they could win an Oscar for their performance.
Yeah you right, Chere – you got somebody in mind, don’t ya?
So what do you do when they really need a taste of their own medicine? When you want, no need, to show their little horde of unsuspecting minions who they really are?
I can tell you what a Swamp Witch does – she turns ’em into Roadkill!
Yes, darlin’ – Roadkill! That stinking, rotting mess that we see on the side of the road!
This Swamp Witch don’t mess around! I will use what the swamp and the bayou provide to get the job done! Any roadkill will do. It’s nasty work – but the benefits you reap afterward are more than worth it!
I will baptize the roadkill as your specified target – and then wrap it in brightly colored yarns and ribbons and pretty things! You know… to make the target feel like we are buying into their sham.
Some energy work, a little altar and candle magick are done, as well as a few other things to complete the process.
Petitions are written to the spirits, offerings are made.
The bright colored bundle is placed on a silver platter and paraded around – treated like the royalty they THINK they are.
It’s a party, boys and girls!
But guess what?
That beautiful bright colored bundle of stink is about to get what it has coming to them –
I set that baby on fire! Oh yeah – we talkin’ bonfire!
As it is consumed by flames – all those brightly colored fragile ribbons and yarns begin to melt away – the pseudo identity falling to the wayside leaving behind their true ‘colors’.
Just wait… the best is yet to come.
If you are patient, and observant, you will get to see their entourage of minions leave them… very reminiscent of rats abandoning a sinking ship!
Why would they want to hang around a big piece of rotting, festering chaos? They usually don’t want to have much to do with the target after something like this. It creates havoc and chaos in the target’s life. Everything they touch stinks to high heaven! By the time the conjure wears off – they are usually left all alone. With little to no successes, no friends, a shell of their former know-it-all Queen (or King) Bee selves.
This is actually a very effective, and generally pretty long-lasting bayou conjure that I am becoming known for! So, reach out to me if you are still thinking of that person you were earlier. Yeah, Chere, I could see those wheels a-turnin’!
As I’ve said before – I don’t mess around!
I don’t do nice! And I don’t do passive aggressive!
You come to me with your problem and I’ll fix you right up.
At the very least – I will make you feel better and put a satisfied smile on your face!
I have a lot of experience working swamp conjures. I have seen the results with my own eyes. I use a great deal of energy for my workings and tricks – but I always give proper abundance of thanks to the Bayou and the spirits!

Lately, I have been asked about suggested reading material. I know that many others, from time to time, will offer up a list of “good reads”. Over the years, I have written down the titles of books that I either read from cover to cover and couldn’t put down, or, titles of books that I use as reference… ALOT!
Many of these books are also found on the suggested reading lists of other practitioners – such as Moma Sarah (Conjured Cardea), Matthew Venus, even Starr Casas herself, has recommended many of these. This is NOT all inclusive, but will give a very well-rounded picture! Enjoy!
Inexplicable Things’ Suggested Reading List –

Now get out there and read, read, READ!
Actions, Anger, As Above So Below, Blog, Blood, Cast, Cause and Effect, Conjure, Craft, Curse, Dark, Darkness, Death, Goddesses, Gods, Harm None, Hex, Jealousy, Karma, Law, Love and Light, Negative, Pagan, Pantheon, Positive, Rage, Reactions, Realist, Religion, So Mote It Be, Stealth, Three Fold Law, Validate, Wiccan Rede, Witch, Witchcraft
Karmically-speaking, I expect most of you will believe I shall be struck down by lightning before I finish this post. I don’t “do” karma… I’m a realist.
Karma – noun – is defined by the folks at Merriam-Webster as,
‘: the force created by a person’s actions that is believed in Hinduism and Buddhism to determine what the person’s next life will be like
: the force created by a person’s actions that some people believe causes good or bad things to happen to that person.’ (www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/karma, 2015)
So, basically, this means that every time something negative happens in my life, it is a direct response to something that I have done – of comparable negativity, at the very least.
Well, if this is the case, then I could spend the rest of my days worrying about all that I have done that may be considered negative to, well, anyone. Oh my! I think I foresee an ulcer somewhere in my future.
Now, let’s throw in the belief of the Three-Fold Law, which is basic to any Wiccan belief system. This “law” – often called The Rule of Three, essentially states that what you put out into the world is returned to you, magnified by three. It’s karma…for pagans, period. This goes hand in hand with the Wiccan Rede. The Rede is stated in a variety of forms, but the gist is ‘an it harm none, do what ye will.’ So, in non-pagan, muggles, what-have-you’s terms – if it won’t in any way, shape, or form harm anyone or anything else, then by all means, put it out there.
But see, therein lies the rub – for me, anyway.
I am what you would call pagan – I follow a polytheistic belief, based on ancient matriarchal and Earth based views, and I have been spiritually “religious” all of my life – which is over 4 decades at the time of this writing. And throughout this life, I have tried to be “good” – at least in my eyes.
Now, this is where my confusion comes in. If, as Pagans, (and yes, many have told me they don’t like organized religion) we don’t “do” organized religion and we don’t like being told what to think and who to follow and where to worship – then why must someone else deem what is “good”… or what is bad. Or maybe it should be stated, positive and negative. Until someone has walked a mile, in my shoes, they better not be trying to tell me that what I do is good or bad…or anything, for that matter.
Now, before jumping all over me – I do understand about the notion of changing free will. I have been told that true Witch’s will not put anything out there that changes someone’s free will. Now wait a minute . . . isn’t casting a spell to bring you true love – isn’t that changing someone’s free will, somewhere? Isn’t wishing and hoping for a change in someone’s nature, or an outcome – isn’t that a change – brought about by other than the normal flow? In essence, yes. We could argue back and forth about it all day – but the truth of the matter is … both sides would be correct. At the end of the day – it’s about what YOU… yourself… and no one else, believes. Am I right?
Well, if that’s the case – then what I see as good and positive, someone else in the world could easily view as negative. And vice versa. What is dark to some, is simply the way it is to others. Who are we to judge the thoughts, intentions, or actions of others? Shouldn’t we govern ourselves, first and foremost? People in glass houses…
It’s the same thing as trying to justify why you did something that others question. It’s your personal opinion on the matter. To some ancient, or otherwise, cultures – harming others is way of life. Sacrifice, destruction, degradation, plunder and pillage … its Mother Nature at her finest!
She creates, she condemns, and she destroys – is she wrong?
Okay, so you follow an Earth-based religion. Our glorious animal kingdom is about as Earth-based as it gets. They create, they judge, they condemn and they destroy. This is all instinctual, it’s their nature.
Are they wrong? Certainly not!
So, with all that being said. Who the hell are we to decide what is right and what is wrong?
I suppose one could split hairs and say well, it’s only really wrong if you are harming another, intentionally. Again, following the Rule and the Rede – whether it be intentional or unintentional – this is a no-no.
What about if someone harms someone you love and cherish – do you draw a line there?
Say, if your 14 year old daughter is raped and the perpetrator was never caught, or was caught, but then released due to lack of evidence. What do you do then?
You can’t honestly tell me – with a clean conscience anyway – that not a single ill thought would run through your mind.
Okay, let’s lie to ourselves some more. We, as humans, even in the reflection of the divine, are simply not built that way. We are vengeful – we are angry – we do feel emotions, to extremes sometimes… just like those we emulate. Gods and Goddesses, in every pantheon, are often swift with justice. And remember folks, there are ALWAYS two sides to EVERY story!
Ancient sacrifices were made in honor of them, in the hopes to bring prosperity, bountiful harvests, blessings and immeasurable other ways.
In my first, ever, blog – entitled ‘A Witch’s Voice’, I wrote about following my own personal path. I refer to myself as eclectic – but many philosophies use the word eclectic to describe views or heritage. I use the term eclectic to describe ME. My philosophies are not the only thing that are pulled from different sources and elements – but my entire makeup is of such. I am from a long line of cattle ranchers and rodeo cowboys, and yet while I love this lifestyle and my upbringing, I ride an iron horse. I was raised on country music and deep moral values, and yet I am covered with tattoos and love the darker things in life. I am an anomaly – in many, many ways – but in the words of Popeye the Sailor – “I yam what I yam and that’s all what I yam.”
What I do is often viewed as “dark” – simply because it’s not the right-handed path that many follow. I prefer the darkness – so, sure, I will identify as “dark” –
Does that make it wrong? No.
My ancestors and Deities were there long before I came along – and the darker things in life must be dealt with. They cannot be swept under the proverbial rug and forgotten about until a later date. Some of the darker natures deal with things like rage, jealousy, curses, even death. These are natural reactions – instinctual, if you will – and so, they are very valid. We cannot simply pretend that they do not exist.
Please understand, I am not poking fun at those that follow such Rules, Redes, and Laws – I am simply stating that there are other ways of thinking and living. That this is not the ONLY way and therefore, those of us that do not follow such, should not be judged by those that do. And, I have known many a Witch and Pagan that adamantly follow such rules and laws, but cannot explain to me why or show any proof of it actually happening.
So, I want those of you that wish to invalidate my claim to contact me.
Either post a response here.
Email me at inexplicablethings@yahoo.
Convo me on my website www.inexplicablethings.com
Hell, send me a smoke signal or carrier pigeon if you need to – but tell me your direct experience that will invalidate my way of thinking.
Seriously – this is somewhat of a research project for me – I have yet to actually meet a single individual that can directly correlate a cause and effect based upon the Karmic Law – or the Wiccan Rede, for that matter. If this is you – please, please, tell me your experience. I will include any portion of said experience in a future posting, with your approval, of course, and it will make for future discussions.
Please – prove me wrong! Tell your friends! Tell your coven mates – give me your experiences!
I look forward to the feedback!
This time of year, I think we could all use a little extra financial boost.
This is just a little collection of prosperity boosting spells and root work that I have complied. The list includes only those spells that I have performed for clients, for myself, or that I have first-hand knowledge of someone using.
If anyone would like for me to perform a setting of lights or any candle work for them, please feel free to contact me directly. I will provide you with photos of before, during and after – as well as a detailed description of what I saw during the working, and finally, you will receive a packet/mojo of left over candle wax, herbs, and curios with complete instructions on what course of action to take next.
On a piece of paper, write down the money troubles you are having. Then chant to yourself for these problems to be resolved and to eventually disappear completely, from your life. Burn the paper.
Carry fresh mint leaves in your wallet or checkbook. The leaves will be more powerful if you can wrap them around a silver dollar coin.
Money Oil recipe
3 parts ginger
2 parts orange
4 parts pine
2 parts cinnamon
½ part chamomile
1 part cedar
Shake well. Decant into a small bottle. Blend in a wheat germ base and orange blossoms and pine needles. Allow to stand for 3 days.
Wealth Spell – using Coltsfoot
For wealth and prosperity for the coming New Year, take a husk from an ear of corn and put a dollar bill inside. Also place a hand written note on a piece of brown paper sack. On the paper, write something like:
Gods of luck
Money is like muck
Not good except to be spread.
Spread some of it (write your address)
Thanks be to the thee.
Sign your name.
Sprinkle the dollar bill and note with Coltsfoot leaves. Roll the husk up and tie together with green string or ribbon. Hang the token above the entryway of your home with a green cord or string. This husk should bring riches into your home or business!
To find money, one should make a conjure bag containing a small horseshoe and lodestone to attract and draw wealth to you. Add Smartweed to the bag – this will enable you to see how to capture the money you seek and hold onto it without being led astray by unprofitable distractions or foolish delays. Feed your conjure bag with a sprinkle of magnetic sand every third day until you find the amount of money you need. Do not be greedy!
Sprinkle cinnamon on your money before you spend it.
Always hand dollar bills out folded in half.
Before shopping, envision that whatever you spend comes back to your several times over.
Every day, drop a penny in a jar and say
“My life is filled with abundance. And all my needs are met.”
Place mint in with your money to make it grow.
Keep an organic, unshelled almond in your purse or wallet – wrapped in a small piece of green cloth. You will always have enough money.
Knot Spell for money
While tying 9 knots in a green, 13” silk cord or ribbon, say
By knot of one, my spell’s begun
By knot of two, plenty fruitful work to do
By knot of three, money comes to me
By knot of four, opportunity knocks at my door
By knot of five, my business thrives
By knot of six, this spell is fixed
By knot of seven, success is given
By knot of eight, increase is great
By knot of nine, these things are mine
Keep the knotted cord in a safe place until things turn around for you financially. Then dispose of it, by burial – DO NOT untie the knots.
I have a large variety of spells and root work to pull from. Some passed down for generations. My services have been requested by many – with great success. Again, if you would like for Inexplicable Things to set lights for you, or perform any candle work, simply contact me. I will have a few questions to ask before we begin.
Good luck in your quests – and may prosperity find you in the coming New Year!
